Bollywood Rose is a new musical by Sumerah Srivastav & Ajay Srivastav about British Asian life and identity, where a young woman becomes trapped inside a Bollywood movie and has to set the story right to free herself.Â
Leeds Bollywood rose autumn camp
At this non-residential camp, you’ll spend five days in Leeds developing Bollywood Rose with a professional artistic team. On the sixth and final day, you’ll perform in a showcase for a live audience and gain a certificate in Musical Theatre in Production from the prestigious Mountview Exams! This is an invaluable opportunity to develop skills in drama, acting, singing, movement, lyric writing and instrumental playing and boost confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills under the guidance of experienced theatre professionals. Open to ages 11-21.
Is there a cost for taking part?
The 6-day development camp in Autumn 2026 has a subsidised cost of £450. This includes the highest quality tuition, a certificate in Musical Theatre from Mountview Exams, lunch and on-site pastoral care. Fees also include two tickets to attend the showcase on the final day. Additional tickets can be purchased on the door for £2.50 each.
As with all BYMT projects, we have a bursary scheme where participants can apply for financial support and all applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Cerys Jones for bursary information.
What to expect from the autumn camp?
In the May Half Term and Summer Term workshops, you will:
• Work on developing a brand new Bollywood musical with a professional creative team
• Develop skills in acting, singing and dancing
• Build confidence
• Meet likeminded people
• Learn new material from brand new musical, Bollywood Rose
• Gain a Grade 5 Certificate in Musical Theatre from Mountview Exams.
About Bollywood rose the musical
Bollywood Rose is an original British Bollywood Musical which will be curated, written and performed by artists and young participants. It will go on to have a further life as a professional production with commercial production partners Julie Clare Productions, touring nationally to celebrate and tell this story rooted in the South Asian community.
Writer Sumerah Srivastav and composer Ajay Srivastav have been developing this idea since 2016; Bollywood Rose tells the story of a young, British Asian single mother, who becomes trapped in a Bollywood film. Having de-railed the storyline, she has to fix what she has broken, including herself, so she can return to her daughter and change her own story.
