Ajay Srivastav is a composer, songwriter, musician and multi-lingual recording artist with over 15 years’ of experience. His passion for diverse music and a global philosophy has taken him on a journey that has seen him go from a touring guitarist (Shah Rukh Khan, Sister India) and recording sessions with Jamiroquai, Gregory Isaacs and Jah Wobble, to becoming an artist in his own right with Top 10 hits in both the Indian pop charts (Aaja Sajana) and the UK Blues charts (Karmic Blues). His band Botown (named in reverence to Bollywood and Motown) became a runaway success that continues today and is dubbed as ‘Bollywood’s answer to Sly & the Family Stone’.
His composing work ranges from short films & documentaries (Soulmates, Flying Sikhs, Wake Up Bollywood), to Bollywood films (Karzz, Golmaal Returns, Bhool Bhulaiya) as well as writing for theatre with Cymbeline (Belgrade Theatre Coventry), The Perfect Ganesh (Phizzical Productions) and Power Of Dance (2012 Cultural Olympiad). Ajay is an alumnus of Book Music & Lyrics program and was invited on to Stratford East’s Musical Theatre Initiative for three consecutive years. He has contributed song material to the play Jigsaw (Migration Museum) published by Methuen and together with his co-writer Sumerah Srivastav, he has two musicals in development which both showcased at BEAM events: Back In The Day-timer (Rifco Theatre) and Bollywood Rose (Julie Clare Productions).
