Current Opportunities
Show Submissions
BYMT programmes six productions each year, which are a combination of returning concepts and new submissions. One show each year will be our New Music Theatre Award winner.
Every production is given a two-week rehearsal process with a cast of 37 young people, a band of up to six young people and professional musicians, and a full creative and production team, culminating with four performances in a regional theatre (e.g Birmingham Hippodrome, Lowry in Salford, Southwark Playhouse).
We also programme five to six development camps and an Upskill Short Course where ideas for new shows can be trialled and developed over a week with a group of young people.
Submissions for our 2027 Season are now open.
The deadline for entries is midday Monday 17 August 2026. Please note we do not accept submissions via email, you must complete our Open Submissions form.

Creative Work Placements
Applications for 2026 Creative Work Placements are now open! The deadline for applications is midday on Friday 6th February.
Each year BYMT make a number of training places available for emerging artists, recent graduates, or those in their second/third year of higher education, wishing to gain work experience on professionally-staged Musical Theatre projects working with young people. These placements take the form of assistant roles to professional practitioners within the chosen discipline, on one of our 2-week residential projects held nationally across the summer/Easter holidays, working with a cast of 36 young people. Our productions are all newly devised music theatre of a variety of genres, and each individual will be appointed to a show that best suits their skillset.
For the past 20 years this scheme has helped emerging artists to take their first steps into the theatre industry by providing work placements on our productions as either Assistant Musical Directors, Assistant Designer and Assistant Stage Manager. There is one of each of these roles available on every BYMT production. This year, each BYMT production will also have a role available for either an Assistant Director or an Assistant Choreographer.Â
We are proud to say that some previous CWPs have returned to work with BYMT in other roles and grown their careers form working relationships established on one of our productions.
Creative Work Placements will receive full board accommodation (including meals), and an expenses allowance to cover their travel and any further fees incurred on production.
