Bollywood Rose is an original British Bollywood Musical which will be curated, written and performed by artists and young participants. It will go on to have a further life as a youth production in a professional northern venue. Writer Sumerah Srivastav and composer Ajay Srivastav have been developing this idea since 2016; Bollywood Rose tells the story of a young, British Asian single mother, who becomes trapped in a Bollywood film. Having de-railed the storyline, she has to fix what she has broken, including herself, so she can return to her daughter and change her own story.
At this non-residential camp, we'll spend five days in Leeds developing Bollywood Rose with a professional artistic team. On the sixth and final day of the camp, participants perform in a showcase for a live audience and gain a certificate in Musical Theatre in Production from the prestigious Mountview Exams. This is an invaluable opportunity to develop skills in drama, acting, singing, movement, lyric writing and instrumental playing and boost confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills under the guidance of experienced theatre professionals.
