What are BYMT Camps?
This 6-day intensive residential summer course in musical theatre, will equip you with the unique skillset and knowledge needed to be competitive and to excel in the theatre industry. The programme incorporates focused training in acting, singing and movement, with talks, masterclasses and seminars designed to illuminate career pathways, build confidence and demystify the audition process.
Receive specialist training from respected Theatre Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers and Vocal Coaches who have a wealth of experience; including commercial West End theatre, regional repertory, experimental and fringe theatre. Many of whom are also currently working within the UK’s leading drama schools and conservatoires.
What happens on a Advanced Skills Camp?
60 hours of intensive tuition, rehearsals and masterclasses spread over a 6 day residential retreat. Students arrive on Sunday evening for a Monday morning start.
Students will participate in group classes (including Acting, Singing, Movement and Audition Technique) in the mornings, and work through scenes and solo performance in the afternoon.
ACTING - Explore and perform modern and classical texts, develop an understanding of practitioners techniques such as Stanislavski.
VOICE - Increase your vocal power and clarity for speaking and performing.
SINGING - Through ensemble and solo singing learn to interpret lyrics and improve vocal technique and skills.
MOVEMENT - Through releasing bodily tension learn how to use your body and physicality to create characters.
IMPROVISATION - Develop your storytelling, devising and theatre making skills.
During the course, participants will have the opportunity to explore different approaches to making new music theatre and cross arts developments, including styles used in physical theatre, mask and Commedia dell’arte, as well as traditional musical theatre and performance techniques.
Exciting anxillary talks and seminars include career development, industry structure and standards, actors’ agencies and starting your own company. At the end of the course participants work towards presenting rehearsed scenes to students and staff (not open to the public).

Those wishing to apply to drama school or conservatoire at undergraduate or postgraduate levels
Those wishing to hone skills in specific areas, or who feel they may have gaps in their learning
Anyone interested in developing new skillsets in musical theatre and performance.

Chetham’s is situated in the heart of Manchester’s Medieval Quarter, bordered by Manchester Cathedral, Victoria Station and the National Football Museum. Chetham’s is within easy reach of all main train, bus, tram and road links.
Course Fees
BYMT courses are heavily subsidised by Arts Council England as well as various other brilliant funders, and as a not-for-profit organisation the course fees help us to cover our costs. The course fee covers full board accommodation, the highest quality tuition, and 24-hour pastoral care.
There are three ways you can pay your course fee: (1) In full OR (2) A deposit with three subsequent instalments OR (3) Extended Payment Plans for as little as £77.50 per month. Please contact cerysjones@bymt.org to find out more.
Domestic students - £775 (deposit: £250), domestic is classified as British/Irish taxpayers.
Overseas students - £875 (deposit: £350), overseas is classified as non-British/Irish taxpayers, living outside UK or Ireland.
