OUR PROGRAMME
British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) is a national theatre company working across the UK and Ireland with young performers, musicians and stage technicians aged 11-21 who have an interest in performing arts and theatre making. We also provide hands on creative training for those over 20 years through our Creative Trainee Scheme for Assistant Musical Directors, Assistant Theatre Directors, Deputy Stage Managers and Assistant Theatre Designers.
We specialise in creating brand new musicals, which means we don't do pre-existing work (or 'repertoire') like West Side Story, Spring Awakening or Annie. At BYMT, we work with leading theatre professionals, to commission and create musical productions that are totally new and truly unique. However you choose to be involved with British Youth Music Theatre, you will be fully involved in the creative process.
For young performers not only will you develop your acting, singing and dancing abilities, you'll also learn how to work as an ensemble, share creative ideas and, most importantly, MAKE THEATRE - this is why BYMT is so unique!
If you have any questions about any of our activities - get in touch - we'd like to hear from you mail@bymt.org 020 8563 7725
TAKE A LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET INVOLVED WITH BYMT
JOIN BYMT COMPANY & PERFORM IN OUR SUMMER PRODUCTIONS
Each summer, BYMT creates at least EIGHT brand new full-scale productions with around 300 young people (the BYMT Company). These are two/three-week residential projects where you'll work with a professional Artistic Team to create a new show that is performed to the public in a professional venue. Production courses are Grade 8 accredited by Trinity College London. BYMT Summer Productions take place all across the UK in July/August and we perform in some really exciting venues including Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Lyric Theatre Belfast, Sadler's Wells, Barbican Plymouth and lots more.
To take part on a summer production and join the BYMT Company, you will need to audition. Each January and February, BYMT tours the whole of the UK and Ireland on a National Auditions Tour. Auditions are open to absolutely anyone aged 11-21 and we look for actors, singers, dancers and musicians. 2024 NATIONAL AUDITIONS are now open for applications, book your place while there's space!
