About Samuel

Samuel Macdonald is a composer, lyricist, and musical director based in Glasgow. They are a graduate of Cambridge University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Their work is focussed on new musical theatre, both in their own musicals, and as an arranger and music supervisor for new work across the UK, recently working on developments with Louis Barabbas and Andy McGregor.

Their piece Magnificat was recently shortlisted for The David MacLennan Award. They are also in demand as a music supervisor and arranger for new musical workshops across the UK. They are a cofounder of Matchstick Productions, making new musicals in Scotland.

Credits as a musical director include Aladdin (Byre Theatre and Bard in the Botanics), The Glasgow Poisoner (A Play, A Pie And A Pint), and Savoy: Everybody’s Doing It (NP&Joy Entertainment).
