Music & Theatre - Education Conference
Are you the one who takes the lead with inspiring your students to make the most out of their talent and opportunities for performance? Whether you do this by creating opportunities within the school, as the one who is responsible for putting on the annual musical, or by signposting students to further training it can be a challenge to have all the information at your fingertips. We can help.
British Youth Music Theatre and Mountview are very pleased to announce the launch of their Music & Theatre - Education Conference on 21 February 2020. This full-day event is specifically designed to give Music, Drama and English teachers the chance to brush up on skills, learn new ones, hear from industry professionals and network with colleagues.
We will start with an inspirational keynote from Giles Terera. Giles trained at Mountview before appearing in The Tempest at the RSC, Avenue Q and Book of Mormon and winning Olivier Award for Best Actor in 2018 for his role in Hamilton. Giles is currently writing a book for young actors and is keen to share his experiences and the kind of advice that he’d have liked to have received when he when was starting out.
Zoë Wanamaker, BYMT Patron said “Teachers have the most important job of all because they are building our future. They can be the decisive source of inspiration and encouragement for young people to change their life and chose the path where the heart leads them. It is wonderful to see BYMT and Mountview reaching out to teachers to help nurture the talent of tomorrow.”
The conference will be full of opportunities to brush up on skills and meet theatre industry professionals as well fellow educators. There will be a variety of workshops throughout the day including: the A-Z of putting on a musical, drama for music teachers, music for drama teachers, theatre lighting in schools, conducting for the inexperienced, auditioning your cast and theatre sound in schools.
Shadow Education Minister Tracy Brabin, MP was thrilled to hear about the conference and said “All opportunities to up-skill our performing arts teachers should be applauded. They give such amazing experiences to our young learners through plays, concerts and musical theatre and we should be giving them all the tools to succeed. I encourage head teachers to support this great conference and their wonderful music and drama teachers.”
