Ruth is a composer for theatre, opera, film and concert music. Ruth is an artist who loves working on both classical, contemporary and electronic compositions, merging cross-cultural and eclectic styles together.
Ruth was the Composer-in-Residence for Endelienta in 2016 and Artist-in-Residence for Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in 2014. She was in the National Theatre’s Music Theatre Group scheme in 2018. Her re-orchestration of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly for Opera Up Close toured nationally before the pandemic in 2020.
Ruth’s soundtrack for silent film Around China With A Movie Camera (British Film Institute) has been performed at Flatpack Film Festival and China Changing Festival at Royal Festival Hall. She has also composed for various television documentaries for the BBC & Discovery Channel.
Ruth is currently composing for an opera film in development ‘Dunwich’ (BFI/Tilt Films) as well as developing musical ‘Follow the Light’ and a new adaptation of ‘Peter Pan’ (Birmingham Rep).
