Co-Writer, Co-Lyricist & Composer

About Kyla

Kyla Stroud is a composer, lyricist, and bookwriter, as well as the founding force behind the queer musical theatre collective Stroud & Notes. A passionate ideator with a deep love for the imagination and the power of fictional storytelling, Kyla creates bold, innovative work that blends heart, humor, and humanity with infectious musicality. Their debut original musical, PUBLIC – The Musical, set in a gender-neutral public bathroom, was named Playbill’s Pick of the Fringe 2023 and was a Popcorn Award finalist, enjoying a critically acclaimed, sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A storyteller at heart, Kyla thrives on building worlds and characters that celebrate queerness, connection, and the full spectrum of human experience.

As a songwriter and performer under the name LAKY, Kyla has supported Emeli Sandé and established themselves as a writer with a gift for marrying lyrical depth with unforgettable melodies. Whether writing for the stage or the studio, they approach each project with curiosity, imagination, and a drive to spark conversation and emotion through music and story.
