Emma was born in Dublin, Ireland. She graduated with a first-class honours BA in English and French from University College Dublin. She completed her PhD in 1997 at University of Cambridge. She has always been a writer and now lives in Ontario, Canada with her family. Emma is best known for her fiction, her novels include Room (2010), The Wonder (2016) and Learned By Heart (2023). A number of her novels have been turned into film or TV adapations and she also writes for screen and stage.
