Built on Community

British Youth Music Theatre is an organisation built on community. Our young people are at the heart of our work, and involvement extends far beyond performance.

We support 11-21 year olds by equipping them with both the training and opportunities to step into their creative potential. Our workshops, camps and productions provide young people with the resources, guidance and knowledge to develop their skills, and our culture of authenticity, collaboration, and generosity inspires confidence in their abilities.

A collaborative approach

BYMT is the largest commissioner of new musicals in the UK, producing at least six new shows a year and developing many more. We are supported by Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and are proud to be part of the National Youth Music Organisations’ (NYMO) network.

BYMT’s small and dedicated staff team are able to deliver so much due to our impressive network of freelancers and brilliant ongoing partnerships with theatres, arts organisations and educational institutions, including Birmingham Hippodrome, Lowry, Candoco Dance Company, Mountview and Leeds Conservatoire.

Opportunities that grow with you

Young performers come to us as young as 11 and often stay into adulthood. We’re honoured to support the shaping of interests and authenticity at this crucial stage of young people’s lives. By providing the space to be heard, and room to grow, performers’ careers are nurtured onto pathways uniquely suited for them.

Space for everyone

Here at BYMT, we’re especially interested in providing arts opportunities where they have previously been inaccessible. We don’t believe anyone with creative aspirations should be left behind, and encourage all young people to join our community.

Future theatre makers are provided a pathway into the industry through our nurturing process. We champion the potential of every individual and support the discovery of their  authentic journey.

Our Alumni

We’re honoured and proud to say that BYMT has been the springboard for many high-profile musicians, performers and actors over the last 20 years, including bestselling singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, and actress Charlotte Ritchie, known for her roles in BBC’s Ghosts and Call the Midwife.

Help give young people from all backgrounds access to the support, skills and opportunities that professional musical theatre training provides.
