The BYMT Gala: 20 Years on Stage

The BYMT Gala will feature songs from across the company’s history performed by alumni artists including Grace Mouat, Lewis Cornay and Luke Bayer reprising their BYMT roles. They will be joined by the next generation of future musical theatre stars, with incredible performances from the BYMT current Young Company. The performances will take place on the set of the fabulous new musical Babies, (composer Jack Godfrey), which began its life as a BYMT show in 2021, and has since developed into a fully-fledged professional production.

The Gala brings together industry, alumni, current young performers and audiences to celebrate two decades of BYMT success. Since 2004, the company has engaged with over 16,000 young people, launched emerging music theatre artists into successful careers, and been at the forefront of the UK’s music theatre landscape as the nation’s most prolific commissioner of new musicals.

A BYMT Convention: Careers in New Music Theatre

Monday 8th July 11-2pm & 2-5pm at The Other Palace Studio and Café.

An event for young people aged 11-21, the BYMT Convention features sessions curated by BYMT’s Young Company Panel, including discussions on creating your own show, building a career in theatre and an open mic slot for original musical material by current BYMT participants. Industry professionals from Musical Theatre Network, Birmingham Hippodrome New Musicals Department, drama schools and many more will share their experience and answer questions.

Panels, Workshops, Discussions and Networking (more exciting details to follow):

Session 1 is from 11am to 2pm and session 2 is from 2pm to 5pm. Both sessions will include the topics mentioned down below, but will feature different speakers.

• Meet the Musical Makers – talk with musical theatre directors, choreographers, musical directors, designers.
• Careers in Musical Theatre – hear from agents, casting directors, drama school tutors about auditions and different paths into the industry
• Creating your own Musical – meet other young composers and writers and hear about the process of making a show, from pitching an initial idea to the process of development and production.
• Open Mic Slots for original material from BYMT young people. If you would like to perform, please send one minute of your song to cerysjones@bymt.org (deadline for entries 3rd June 2024).
