FOR TEACHERS
Teachers are extremely important to us as they support us in encouraging young people into the BYMT Company, and inspire the creative development of young people in schools up and down the country. We offer a number of ways for teachers and schools to work with us and in return we provide opportunities with the company.
DISCOVER MUSIC THEATRE | Auditions & Careers Day
Discover Music Theatre, our in-school auditions and careers day, immerses students into the world of theatre and aims to share our passion for theatre outlining the range of careers open to potential students in professional theatre and, by extension, into film, advertising and TV. The day includes industry careers advice and a full audition for BYMT productions. Successful students will be considered for a place in our 2025 Season of New Music Theatre.
Our team of director, musical director, choreographer, theatre technician/designer and training associate will come to your college, school or community group to deliver several sessions including movement/dance, singing, acting, Q&As and either stage management or lighting/sound. It can take place anytime in the academic year, during the school day, at weekends or during half-term. Discover Music Theatre is open to any interested performer, technician or instrumentalist aged 11-18. Performers can be novice or experienced.
Discover Music Theatre can cater to a range of group sizes, learning outcomes and abilities. The activities are always offered to pupils free of charge, with various funding models depending on school budgets and the grants that we have secured.
We really try to make the workshops tailored to what you feel the students would enjoy / gain the most experience from so we always offer different options for schools to decide how they would like the day to run:
Option 1 - Generate Original Material: Write your own song and develop a narrative under the professional guidance of our creative team. Explore movement styles, establish character relationships and practice improvisation before finishing the day with a showcase of all the new material you’ve generated.
Option 2 - Develop a New Musical: Work with a creative team who are already have a new musical in the initial stages of development and workshop their material. This is an industry standard rehearsal room experience where students explore set pieces of choreography, music and scenes from the script with the director.
Option 3 - Kickstart Your School Production: Get your school production off to the best start possible with the expert help of our team! Explore acting, singing and movement as part of a professional workshop based on the material you’ve chosen and end the day with a clear understanding of how to run an effective rehearsal room.
Option 4 - Explore Behind the Scenes: For students more interested in production than performance, we offer a backstage pathway working with designers, lighting and sound professionals and stage managers to bring a design concept to life.
All approaches take place over the course of a day and give students the opportunity to rotate around the 3 key disciplines of Musical Theatre: Acting (led by a director), Singing (led by a musical director) and Dancing (led by a choreographer).
