What is Upskill?

Upskill is our intensive residential summer course for 16 - 21 year olds. It has been created specifically for those looking to hone their skill set in preparation for a career in the industry or further training at drama schools or conservatoires.

This camp delivers focused training in acting, singing and movement, with talks, masterclasses and seminars designed to illuminate career pathways, build confidence and demystify the audition process.

Participants will receive specialist training from respected Theatre Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers and Vocal Coaches who have a wealth of experience, including commercial West End theatre, regional repertory, experimental and fringe theatre, and are currently working within the UK’s leading drama schools and conservatoires.

This intensive course focuses on preparing young people for the next big step in their lives in a fun and accessible way, whilst meeting fellow young people who are just as passionate about performing as they are!

What happens during the Upskill course?

Participants will receive 60 hours of intensive tuition, collaborative creation of new musical theatre numbers, rehearsals and masterclasses spread over a 6 day residential retreat.

  • ACTING - Explore and perform texts and acting through song.
  • VOICE - Increase your vocal power and clarity for speaking and performing.
  • SINGING - Through ensemble and solo singing learn to interpret lyrics and improve vocal technique and skills.
  • MOVEMENT - Through releasing bodily tension learn how to use your body and physicality to create characters.

During the course, participants will have the opportunity to explore different approaches to making new music theatre and cross arts developments, including styles and performance techniques used across contemporary and traditional musical theatre.

Exciting talks and seminars include career development, industry structure and standards, actors’ agencies and starting your own company. At the end of the course, participants work towards presenting rehearsed new musical theatre to an invited audience.
