Vanishing Point Première

YMT proudly presents the première of its first ever film project Vanishing Point.

Summer 2013 saw the biggest season of new music theatre in YMT's history, and on Sunday 24 November Vanishing Point will be hitting the big screen at Cineworld Shaftesbury Avenue in London's West End! In association with BAFTA-nominated digital media company Gamelab, Vanishing Point is YMT's first ever film project and we can't wait to share it with you.

Written and directed by Ellie Jones and composed by Becky Applin, Vanishing Point tells the thrilling story of a modern seaside town and just what happens when we underestimate young people.

Here's what Ellie has to say about working on the project:

"Having decided on a title and a vague idea that 35 young people would be filmed vanishing somehow in Plymouth in August, the story of Vanishing Point was discovered and devised via a YMT Facebook page.

Because the filming process needs much more planning than the theatre process, all of the cast were invited to start devising online in the months before the actual project. As usual, they offered inventive, intelligent and intriguing ideas - they wrote lyrics, character breakdowns and storylines. They discussed music styles, costuming and production design. Then Rebecca and I had the daunting task of trying to pull all those ideas together!

Once we’d all assembled in Plymouth, we took some film acting lessons with the brilliant Darren Strange and the cast took to the process like proverbial ducks to water. They mastered extreme close ups, talking down the barrel of the lens, reacting even when out of shot and most of the time were quiet for “first positions”.

Their commitment to this process, talent and great good humour throughout an exhausting two weeks make this film what it is today – well, that, and the huge technical team and expertise that made filmed them, costumed them, edited them, recorded them, added sound effects, found locations, choreographed dance routines, enhanced visual effects and made them look like stars.

And of course a massive thank you to the pastoral team who did an exceptional job taking care of the cast. The project was an absolute pleasure for me to be part of and I hope the resulting film is a pleasure for you too."

If you'd like to come and see Vanishing Point there are three screenings: 3:30pm, 4:15pm and 5:00pm. The running time is approximately 30 minutes and tickets are only £5!
