Discover Musical Theatre: St Martin's School
Full-day Auditions & Careers workshop for ages 11-21
Discover Musical Theatre, BYMT's new in-school auditions and careers days, immerse students into the world of theatre and aims to share our passion for theatre outlining the range of careers open to potential students in professional theatre. Pupils will find out about the many different aspects of theatre production; get hands on experience of performance (singing, acting, dancing) through a professional audition workshop, have a go at stage lighting with an experienced technician and learn about the various roles in theatre production and how to get in to the industry.
What happens on the day?
Our full-day Auditions and Careers workshop will run from 9.30am to 6pm. Sessions will include movement/dance, singing, acting through song, Q&As and either lighting/sound or stage management. Through the process each performer will be assessed by skillset as in an audition.
What happens next?
Particularly talented performers (including instrumentalists) may be invited to join BYMT's Summer Residential Projects to create a brand-new musical with a team of theatre professionals. Those with an interest in lighting, sound, stage management and costume will have an opportunity to apply for BYMT’s technical courses.
We audition over 1,500 young people across the UK and Ireland every year, between October and February. There are approximately 280 places available in BYMT’s theatre company, which produces 8 new shows each summer. Final casting decisions are made in the last week of February. Students will be contacted within 3 weeks of their Audition Day with a basic offer. We will then inform people at the beginning of March, which show they have been cast for. Those who don’t receive an offer, may join our reserves list or be offered a place on one of our Musical Theatre Summer Camps.
